Grass-Roots Human Security Projects

　Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects is a small scale funding programme under the Government of Japan aiming at the area of Basic Human Needs (BHN) which includes i) Poverty Reduction, ii) Natural Disaster Response, iii) Education, iv) Health, v) Gender Issues and vi) Environment for the people of Belize. To apply for this programme, download and complete the Project Concept Paper and send it to the Grass-Roots Human Security Project Coordinator in Embassy of Japan via email (Email address is in the brochure).

Prospective applicants should note that the following budget items cannot be financed: consumables, electric appliances including computers, regular vehicles, running and maintenance costs of facilities and equipment, administrative costs of the recipient organisation and and monetary sponsorship for a recipient's hosting of an event.

Eligible Organizations: Non-profit organizations: Registered local NGOs, registered international NGOs, local public authorities, educational institutions, medical institutions

Eligible Sectors

Education (small school buses, small-scale construction)
Health and Medical (medical equipment, ambulances*)
Disaster Prevention (fire trucks*)
Sanitation and Water Supply (garbage trucks*)
Agriculture (machinery and facility development)

*Depending on budget, used vehicle shall be considered.

Grant amount: 100 million Japanese Yen (approx. US$65,000)

Selection Process

Submission of the Project Concept Paper
Document review for selection by Embassy
On-site survey by the Embassy and draft a formal project application
Contract conclusion after approval by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Head Office)

Important Notes

Self-contribution: Partial cost-sharing required (external audit fees, painting of Japanese flag, taxes, etc.)
Reporting Obligation: Submission of a report after project completion
