Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project Handing Over Ceremony for The Project for Procurement of Garbage Trucks for San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town

The handing over ceremony was held at the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town on Tuesday, July 11th, 2023. Purchased under our Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects Programme, two(2) new garbage trucks were officially handed over to the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town.
Ambassador Shirakata noted in his remarks that our partnership for this project gives clear indication that Japan and Belize are focused on resolving environmental issues such as waste management and combating pollution, and both countries are proactive in implementing measures and actions to realize sustainable development. He also informed that the Japan is working with partner countries that are confronted with environmental problems that are a common challenge to all of us and believes that it is vital for central and local governments, stakeholders and individuals to cooperate and coordinate actions with tangible outcomes in order to effectively address these issues. Lastly, he strongly hoped that this project will greatly enhance the sanitary health and safety standards and environmental protection in these towns.
Within the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town, Cayo District, improvement of health environment was a critical need as due to the people had challenges with the issue of health hazards, potential risks as well as environmental and economic threats. As a result of this new garbage trucks, the people will achieve a better sanitary and healthy environment and it will lead to promoting the safety standards in the community.
Notable attendees included; The Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labor and Local Government, Mr. Valentino Shal, His Worship, The Mayor, Mr. Earl Trapp, Deputy Mayor Ms. Shirlene Neal, Councillors and Officials of the Town Council.
