Government of Japan-supported 80 MW Utility-Scale Solar Project Development is launched

On January 26, the Request for Prequalification (RFPQ) for the development of an 80MW utility-scale solar photovoltaic project was launched under the “Belize Solar Project,” to which the Government of Japan is contributing as the largest donor through the Comprehensive Japan Trust Fund (CJTF). This project is being implemented by Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) in partnership with the Government of Belize, with advisory support from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group. The initiative aims to significantly expand Belize’s renewable energy capacity and enhance the resilience and sustainability of the national electricity system. It also contributes to Belize’s national goal of achieving 75% renewable electricity generation by 2030.

The Government of Japan expects that this project will attract private sector investment and contribute to Belize’s clean energy transition and sustainable development.

The full RFPQ package is available at the BEL website.
